Miles has over a twenty-year track record of successfully resolving a wide range of disputes in federal and state courts, in arbitration, through mediation, and as a neutral himself. Miles achieves favorable outcomes for clients by combining a practical, common-sense approach with finely honed legal skills, including the ability to cut quickly to the heart of a case, to make strategic use of the litigation tools available, and to advocate persuasively by telling a compelling story.
Miles understands dispute resolution in its many forms and from multiple perspectives. He has tried cases and, as a law clerk, seen them tried from the bench; he has represented clients in mediation and also trained and served as a mediator. He also is trained in and practices collaborative law. Miles’s areas of experience are further testament to his versatility, including class actions and cases involving employment-discrimination and wage-and-hour claims, real estate and financing transactions, manufacturing, supply and distribution agreements, commercial sales contract, partnership and shareholder disputes, securities fraud and other business torts, patent infringement, and trade-secret and non-competition claims. Miles also has represented individuals in marital dissolutions and fiduciaries and beneficiaries in a variety trust and estate disputes, including will contests.
Before joining Savitt Bruce & Willey, Miles practiced with Davis Wright Tremaine, Riddell Williams, and served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in the Civil Division of the King County Prosecutor’s office. Miles also was law clerk to Judge Carolyn Dimmick, then Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, magna cum laude.
Miles was born and raised in Seattle. He is married and has two teenagers. Miles and his family enjoy skiing, backpacking, and sailing. Miles also is an avid distance runner, having run many ultra marathons and completed his first 100-mile race in 2017, at the age of 50.
